Dear PAUS Parents,
Technology is embedded in our lives and our world today. Additionally we know that
whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will
increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.
But only a tiny fraction of us are learning how technology works. Fewer than half of all
schools teach computer science.
That’s why our entire school has joined in on the largest learning event in history: The
Hour of Code, which occurred last week during Computer Science Education Week
(December 5-11). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour
of Code.
Our Hour of Code is making a statement that Putnam Ave Upper School is ready to
teach these foundational 21st century skills. To continue bringing programming activities
to your students, we encouraged all math and science teachers to utilize the Hour of
Code site. The week was an exciting one where all students had hands-on experience
coding a variety of new programs. Students worked independently and in small groups
to assist in the problem-solving nature of coding. It was exciting, challenging and
rewarding for all.
Did you know that CRLS now offers nine courses in computer science? We are well
on our way to getting our students engaged with programming and the possibilities it
holds for their future.
For more information, please

to code. It is fun, easy and accessible to all!
Sincerely,
