Important Information about Health Insurance
Do you get your health insurance through the Massachusetts Health connector, have temporary Mass Health coverage, or need to get health insurance?

Well right now it is open enrollment time at the Massachusetts Health Connector for members and those families and individuals seeking state assisted health care. Please note that current members may need to re-enroll even if they are planning to keep the same coverage. This is time sensitive so do not be left out. Click here or call Mass Health Customer Service at 877.623.6765.

Parents of 6th Graders
Before students can enter 7th given as part of your child’s twelve year old check-up, but may have been given before.

Please check your child’s immunization record or call his/hers Primary Care Provider the record should show that the following vaccines are up-to-date:

  • 1 Tdap ( tetanus booster – given within the last 4 years)
  • 2 varicella ( chicken pox )
  • 2 MMR ( measles, mumps and rubella)

Once these vaccines are given, please submit the documentation to the school nurse.

Physical Education Class
Students (or their parents) requesting physical education restrictions or exclusions must be seen by the School Nurse prior to exemption from gym activities. If a physician believes that a student should be excluded from physical education for an injury or illness, the parents should have the physician write a note stating the nature and length of exclusion.

Secondly, please remind your child to wear or bring sneakers for Physical Education class. Students are more easily injured if they do not have the correct footwear for physical activity.

Use of Crutches in School
A child requiring use of crutches/wheelchair/cane in school must bring a note from the doctor to the health office and meet with the nurse prior to entry. This note should include reason for use, ability to manage stairs, length of use (with dates) and any activity restrictions.

Flu
Did you know that in Massachusetts more people get the flu in February than other months? It is not too late to get a flu vaccine, contact your doctor’s office to make an appointment.
