On Saturday, February 28, Putnam Avenue Students went to see the BU men's basketball team play against Patriot League Rival Holy Cross. This has become an annual tradition for Putnam Avenue students. BU lost the game but fun was had by everybody and we look forward to next year.

During February vacation Putnam Avenue eighth graders Nellisha Leonce and Patrina Eugene attended a Crime scene Investigation Science Camp at the Whitehead Institution in Cambridge. The students investigated a mock crime scene and performed all cutting edge skills and techniques to solve the mystery. An article was published in BetaBoston and The Boston Globe Newspaper. This has become an annual opportunity for Putnam Avenue students thanks to the generosity of the Whitehead Institute.

8th GradeAlso during February vacation several students attended Math Fun sessions at the school. These sessions were focused on reviewing previously taught skills and starting to get ready for math MCAS. A BIG shoutout to all the students who participated and to Ms. Calioro, Mr. McDonald, Mr. Godfrey and Mr. Alexandre for their time.

On Tuesday, February 24th, eighth graders went to the Museum of Science to see the Magnificent Maya exhibit. The trip was generously provided by a Google Making Science grant. We first explored the Math Moves! exhibit, then the Magnificent Maya and the IMAX film “Mystery of the Maya.” Following lunch, we were able to see the lightning show. It was a great day of cross-curricular learning in math, social studies, and science.
