Instruction Update: June 2018

As we approach summer vacation, we want to remind you of the importance of summer reading. Reading is the best way to keep growing during the summer and to keep from losing all of the work that you have done all year long. It’s also a wonderful way to entertain yourself and escape into a new world!

At Putnam Ave., we are committed to supporting all of our students in developing vibrant, engaged, and empowered reading lives, which is why we expect all students to read for 20 minutes a day, every day, throughout the summer. It is also expected that all students read a minimum of five (5) books of their choice during the summer.

To support these expectations, we have shared with families:

  • a schedule for the book bike (free books and lunch are offered daily at Cambridge Parks!),
  • an overview of the Putnam Ave. Summer Reading expectations,
  • a list of book suggestions,
  • a daily log, and
  • a space to record the titles and authors of books that you have completed.

Please make sure to return the log and list of books read to your English teacher in September, when we will kick off our school year by discussing books and developing a strong independent reading program in our classrooms.

We wish you a happy and safe summer--filled with reading!
