2018 Quarter 1 Celebration and Awards

Quarter 1 AwardsOn Tuesday, 11/20/18, we held a whole school assembly to celebrate the end of Quarter 1. Besides chanting our school’s core values, we also cheered on some brave students who volunteered to show off their skills on stage. In alignment with our core value of Passion, which states that “our passion is for the pursuit of academic excellence through effort,” we gave out Q1 “Academic Excellence” awards in the following categories:

6th Grade Awards

  • English Language Arts - Amelia Rodriguez (Academic Achievement), Gardyel Colon-Zayas (Effort)
  • Math - Hermela Shimelis (Academic Achievement), India Benzan (Effort)
  • Social Studies - Charity Rounds (Academic Achievement), Syke DaCosta (Effort)
  • Science - Katie Campbell (Academic Achievement), Ezekiel Hailemichael (Effort)

7th Grade Awards

  • English Language Arts - Kaia McCaffrey (Academic Achievement), Jose Fontanez (Effort)
  • Math - Megan Huang (Academic Achievement), Jhamir Mercedat (Effort)
  • Social Studies - Thomas Herrick (Academic Achievement), Leila Mohammed (Effort)
  • Science - Alejandra Vega Espinosa (Academic Achievement), Amyrrah Domond (Effort)

8th Grade Awards

  • English Language Arts - Arjuna Tantular (Academic Achievement), Rickey Simmons (Effort)
  • Math - Mubarak Ware, Ariana Ramos (Academic Achievement), Jonas Kambazza, Cherace Lin (Effort)
  • Social Studies - Kylee Bernard (Academic Achievement), Jonas Herode (Effort)
  • Science - Salma Boukouj (Academic Achievement), AJ Willis (Effort)

We also gave a shout out to the Putnam Ave. Cross Country team, who competed in the Upper Schools Cross Country tournament on Wednesday, 11/7/18. We are proud to celebrate these runners in particular:

  • Armando Gutierrez, Gr. 8 - 1st place overall, boys race
  • Farai Sundai, Gr. 6 - 2nd place overall, girls race

We also celebrated the Putnam Ave. Model United Nations team, who competed in a tournament at Northeastern University on Saturday, 11/17/18. We then listened to student government speeches from the two teams in the running and were impressed by the poise and dedication of our future student leaders. Lastly, students and staff were treated to a surprise performance from the Akwaaba Ensemble, a west African drumming and dance group!
