Math
Students are finishing up unit 4 and will be beginning unit 5 over the next few weeks where students will be introduced to the concept of a function. They’ll learn to understand and use the terms “input,” “output,” and “function” in phrases such as “temperature is a function of time.” Students will be able to represent, interpret, and explain functions.

Science
We are nearing the end of our unit on physical science by exploring the role of gravitational forces on orbital patterns and tides. Students will be reviewed for their second common assessment for this unit by participating in a variety of activities including a card sort of Newton’s Laws, a Q & A session, and writing a constructed response on forces.

ELA
Students have completed studying A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare and the theme of control between characters in the play. In Unit 2, students are preparing to write an argumentative essay on the theme of control and free will by gathering evidence and studying our characters more closely through analysis of their actions.

Social Studies

Students are wrapping up a unit on the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizens. They will prove their understanding of the importance of these two elements by completing one of two projects: the first option is to create a written document such as a graphic novel or a short story that can be used to teach new arrivals to the US about their rights and responsibilities; the second project is to design a country and then complete a utopian analysis of the country in order to determine what quality of life the citizens are receiving as a result of their rights and responsibilities.
