8th GradeEighth graders have spent the first month of school getting to know each other better, getting to know their new teachers and figuring out routines and expectations. We have had a lot of fun building community and getting to know all of the students. Congratulations to Advisory 303 for winning the championship belt at our first week of school field day!

Portfolio
Every 8th grader will complete a Core Values Portfolio as part of their requirements for graduation. The Core Values Portfolio will consist of reflective essays on the core values, with artifacts to support demonstration of each core value. Students will also be asked to think about their futures and what they envision their lives will be like. We will walk students through a series of activities to help them identify college and career paths. All students will be required to complete at least 10 hours of community service and to participate in at least one extracurricular activity. While the 8th grade team will have some time in school dedicated to portfolio work, students must also complete some of the work outside of school. Be on the lookout for more detailed information about the 8th Grade Core Values Portfolio.

Who are we?

This month, in social studies, we have been exploring identity. We’ve delved into various aspects of identity, including race, class, and gender as well as how identity affects the choices people make. In social studies we discussed the “Danger of a Single Story” in regards to identity and in ELA we started reading, The House on Mango Street.

Girl Empowerment
The Cambridge Girls Only Leadership Development Group is run by City Councilor E. Denise Simmons. This program is for 8th grade girls only. Members will meet on the first Thursday of each month from 4 - 6PM, at which time they will meet influential female guest speakers and have mini-lessons in public speaking, advocacy, social skills, social media, networking, college prep, and phone etiquette. Please see Mrs. Fulkerson for a brochure and/or application.
