Math

Students are working their way through unit 4. We will be solving systems of equations, which requires students to find solutions that satisfy two real-world situations simultaneously.

Science
Eighth graders have started the second unit, “How Will it Move?” in which we explore the relationship between forces and motion. Students will plan and carry out investigations to show understanding about the cause and effect relationship around forces, both those that appear to be contact forces and those at a distance.

ELA
Eighth graders are beginning the next module in which we study a William Shakespeare drama and the Comedy of Control. We will be studying A Midsummer Night's Dream through Reader’s Theater in the classroom and will consider the themes of authorship and control in the play. As we move into the next module, students will continue their independent reading both in class and at home and will work towards the 8th grade goal of finishing at least 20 books by the end of the year.

Social Studies

Students are beginning a study of the rights and responsibilities of American citizens. They will be analyzing the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and in particular, the Bill of Rights. Students will be evaluating current news events with these rights in mind to determine if their rights are being upheld or disregarded. This unit will culminate in a project that will ask students to create a product in order to teach immigrant children about their new rights as US citizens.
