Transitions, or changes between one thing to another, occur every day and with each new transition comes important choices and decisions. As we transition into the second semester of the 2016-2017 school year, both students and teachers are reflecting on their first semester academic performances. The school asks students to reflect on a number of issues, including: what went well in the first semester?; what improvements do I want to make?; and what concrete steps do I need to take to get to the “good life”?

Looking further ahead into the 2017-2018 school year, the counseling team has begun meeting with staff at CRLS to ensure a smooth transition to the high school for the current 8th grade class. At the same time, the Putnam Avenue counseling team will hold transition meetings with staff members from our feeder schools, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School, Kennedy-Longfellow School, and the Morse School. This will help ensure a smooth transition for 6th graders entering our school in the 2017-2018 school year. Each new transition creates a new opportunity to grow and reflect on the milestones we have passed. At Putnam Avenue Upper School we feel it’s important to reflect on our past choices as a way to learn from successes and especially from challenges. These reflections prepare and guide students for the unknown academic, social, and developmental challenges that lay ahead. As educators, we look forward to supporting each student in both the expected and unexpected transitions they may face while at Putnam Avenue Upper School.
