ScienceScience: Students are working on… Can I believe my eyes? The first week of school students participated in and explored the phenomenon of a Pinhole Theater. Our scholars were able to see images reflected inside a box upside down. They then investigated and hypothesized why the images were flipped. Currently, our students are exploring what factors affect whether you can see an object or not. On September 21st, our young scientists made a 3D model representing the factors that impact how we see an object.

ELA: We have been focusing on three specific areas: writing, reading, and public speaking. We expect students to be willing to write and improve their skills through taking time to think critically using articles from current, relevant events (Ex: Ayanna Pressley, screentime for school-aged children). Conversations are facilitated using socratic seminar to intentionally create a more rigorous academic atmosphere that promotes independent thinking and learning.

Grade 6Students need to be reading a minimum of 20 books for this school year, but we believe they will be able to complete a greater amount. As students progress through the school year, they will be explaining and discussing their books with their peers.

We believe that every student will be academically fruitful, intellectually persistent, and passionately tenacious about writing, reading, and public speaking.

Social Studies: Students are working on our first unit for the year: Geography. Students will begin learning about the five themes of geography. With that knowledge, we will work on creating a virtual brochure of a selected country so that a Cambridge resident might be able to use it to visit.

Boy Jumping in a Potato SackMath: Students are beginning Unit 1, Area and Surface Area. We are currently developing reasoning strategies for the area of various shapes such as parallelograms and triangles.

Special Ed: We are starting from basics - Literal comprehension and vocabulary. We will later move step by step to enable our students to reach their reading goals.

Chinese Immersion: Students are working on our Geography Pretest DBQ. Students will start learning the five themes of geography after completing the Geography DBQ. At the end, students will create a virtual brochure of a selected country and present it.
