LibraryAhhh, the beginning of a new school year with so many lofty goals, new shoes and pencils, and a whole new routine to figure out. There are changes with every new beginning and this year is no different. At PAUS we are engaging in a concerted effort to get kids reading for pleasure. As educators and fellow readers, we know that the key to learning and comprehension is understanding text. Sure, there are many skills and concepts that children need to learn over the course of their middle school years, but reading and understanding increasingly complex text needs to be prioritized.

Given this schoolwide goal, all ELA classes have visited the PAUS Learning Commons this week. Our intention was for every student to have a book when they left the library, as well as orient the students to library expectations. Please consider checking in with your student to inquire what they are reading. You may want to check for understanding by asking about the plot or character development throughout the book. It is interesting to know what genre your student is currently into and why they like that genre. Keeping conversations light, but highlighting to your child that they should be reading consistently. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me or peruse our new Learning Commons website.
