In science, students are investigating different kinds of energy and energy transformation. They have conducted experiments about kinetic and gravitational energy and generated conclusions about what affect independent variables, such as mass or speed, have on the amount of energy. As we continue in the unit, we will explore other kinds of energy (key terms: potential, elastic, thermal, chemical, electrical) and how energy is transformed and transferred, but never destroyed. The students also finished their first Genius Hour research projects of the year, and will begin their second project after the break.

In ELA, students are reading informational texts to determine the central idea. The articles coincide with our next novel Pygmalion. We are going to begin reading Pygmalion after February break. On March 1, all seventh grade students took a practice ELA writing assessment. This data will dictate part of our MCAS prep unit, which we will begin at the end of March.

In math, students have concluded our exploration of the number system and entered the unit of expression and equations. In this new unit, students will apply properties of operations as strategies to add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients. Lastly, throughout the unit, we will experience a challenging preparation process gearing us for MCAS.

In social studies, students are wrapping up their research paper about an historical figure who faces persecution and perseveres. After the February break we will start our India unit where we will explore Hinduism and Buddhism.
