Counselor's Corner: October 9, 2018
Posted on 10/04/2018

September has been a busy month for the Putnam Avenue counseling team! Here’s just a sampling of what we’ve been up to:

  • We’ve welcomed a new member of our staff, Shayna Jones, as our Family Liaison. Shayna is bringing her relevant experience as a community organizer to help us build stronger partnerships and connections with community organizations and families. We are excited to work with Shayna this year!

  • We provided a week of community building for our Advisories in order to help all of our students feel significant, like they belong, and have some fun! This month the students will focus on their “Story of Self” and the core value of Passion.

  • The Weekend Backpack program has returned to Putnam Ave. and we are preparing to send home meals with our students starting October 5th. If you haven’t signed up yet, and would like to take part in the Weekend Backpack ,program please contact Mathieu Perry.

  • We are working with the folks at the MLK School to ensure that Putnam Ave. families have access to the Food for Free program. The first one will be on Friday October 5th, 2018 from 3-5PM. Again, please contact Mathieu Perry if you have any questions.

  • Drop-in hours have been developed so that students, no matter what their struggle, can access one of the counselors without an appointment.

  • Drop-boxes have been hung on each floor so that students can leave the counseling team notes about their concerns.

As always, feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, or suggestions.
