District of Dartmouth Visit 2019
Posted on 01/29/2019
On Wednesday, January 9th, we had the honor of hosting a learning visit for the district of Dartmouth. We were joined by: Catherine Pavo, Principal of the DeMello Elementary School; Audra Thomas, Assistant Principal of the Quinn Elementary School; Lori Jodoin, Out of District and Clinical Services Administrator; and, Elizabeth Townson, Pupil Support Services Administrator. Visitors were able to engage in a school tour, classroom visits, and three interactive sessions, which highlighted the work that we are doing in the Beyond Access Framework:
  • Valuing Impact Over Intentions: Restorative Practices at Putnam Ave.,
  • Learner Visibility: Cultural Proficiency, and
  • Authentic Relevance: Family Engagement and Student Advisory.

Participant Feedback
  • My overall takeaway is how embedded your core values are in everything that you do. This is particularly relevant as we begin to look at ways of improving our culture and not look at stand alone strategies. My feeling having visited today is one of hope and joy as your school embodies the transformational power of relationship building.

  • Highlights for me were the learner visibility discussion with Chris, Kareem, and Michelle. [They] were so authentic in telling their own personal stories as well as how they are able to braid their instruction with how the kids are doing. I felt empowered after listening to “Extra Mile, Relationships, Instruction & Engagement” to really start after school programming.

  • The highlight for me was hearing and seeing and feeling the passion and pride your students and staff have for learning, for discovering themselves, and becoming the best version of that self.

  • The highlight of the day [was] watching the teachers interact so authentically with each and every learner, making it clear that students know that they are cared for her. Relationships matter and seeing it here today was amazing!
