Mathematicians Mile: The Flagway Game

flagwayIn partnership with Maisha Moses of Young People’s Project, Angie Uyham of Cambridge Educator Design Lab, and Damon Smith, Principal of CRLS, many Putnam Avenue students are participating in The Flagway™ Game.

Flagway is a math game that creates an environment to practice and celebrate mathematics. During the game, students navigate a course based on Flagway rules, which are derived from the Mobius function. Flagway elaborates on basic number facts by incorporating those facts into a game where players guess, conjecture and reflect as well tie these mental operations into the kinesthetics of running the patterned network of the game.

On Friday, Friday, February 8th some PAUS students participated in a Flagway Tournament with students from Cambridge Street Upper School and the Timilty Middle School, in Roxbury.

We are thrilled to announce the Putnam Avenue Panthers came in 1st place! There were 30 separating us from the 2nd place team! We are beyond proud of all the students who participated!

We are also excited to announce that we have expanded Flagway into 7th and 8th grade! We anticipate hosting additional competitions in the Spring and are hoping to participate in the National Flagway™ Tournament in Washington, D.C.!
