The Leaders of Putnam Avenue
The 8th graders took right away to their new leadership role by performing skits on our core values of passion, pride, ownership, balance, and perseverance during the whole school assembly that occurred during the first week of school! Each advisory creatively worked together to plan a skit on their assigned core value and what it represented to them.

Students also participated in a grade level field day that was filled with fun, laughter, and friendly competition. This team building activity was a great way to start off the school year!

Math: Students in grade level math began the year exploring the rigid movements a figure makes on a plane. Students in AMP finished their work with irrational numbers and right triangles and are now exploring one variable statistics.

Science: Students began the year learning about the seasons and their role in climate through our first unit entitled, “How do Humans Impact the Environment?” Once we explore how and why we have seasons, we will move on to discover what causes climate.

ELA: Students began the year developing independent reading routines, setting goals for themselves, and establishing a culture of readers in the classroom. To end the unit, students had the chance to play the role of critic, writing reviews of an independent reading book of their choice.

Social Studies: Students began the year with a unit on identity. They have explored the difference between internal identity and external identity, as well as how society impacts their identity. They are in the process of completing the final project, which is to create an “upstander ad”, in which they raise awareness for a group who is oppressed in our society due to their external identity. It is our hope that we will be able to make these ads/commercials available for families to see.
