In math, students have began their measures of central tendency unit. They are working on calculating mean, median, mode, and range. They are exploring different ways to look at data and organize the data using a Box Plot. Additionally, students have taken their last computational fluency assessment to measure their progress in computation of decimals, fractions, and whole numbers. Students will continue to use creative ways to find and graph data as they close off the school year.

In ELA, we’ve started our last unit: independent reading. Students spend at least 20 minutes each day reading in class. We have three goals for the unit: establish an independent reading habit, go into the summer with a list of books to read, and produce a final project to show off their understanding of their independent reading book.

In science, students are finishing their final science unit, Earth science. The driving question is "how does water shape our world?", which they will investigate through a series of lab experiments and using Volcanoes National Park and Grand Canyon National Park as case studies. Students will investigate how water moves around our world from one reservoirs to another through game play and experimentation, applying many of the scientific principles we learned in our chemistry unit. Finally, students are wrapping up their final Genius Hour projects, which they will be presenting to the class.

In social studies, students have started their final unit for the year, ancient Greece. Students have been able to study the ancient Greek city-states of Athens and Sparta, and use their knowledge and research to create a web-page for their own city-state. This year, as the final project of the year, students will be reading and researching about the Greek legacy and creating a poem or rap that discusses what the Greeks contributed to our modern society.
