Message from Mirko Chardin: January 11, 2021

Dear Putnam Ave. Students and Families,

The past week has been turbulent for all of us -- politically, professionally, and personally -- and we sincerely hope that you take time to be with those you love and to do something that affords you some peace and some opportunity to care for yourself. We know that there is so much uncertainty brought about by the rising COVID numbers, the return to in-person learning for some of our staff and students today, and the potential return to in-person learning in February -- not to mention all of the things that so many of you carry in your personal lives. In moments of global, local, and personal crises, such as these, your number one priority should be and needs to be your physical, mental, psychological, and emotional well being.

Superintendent Salim has already shared that he is planning to expand in-person learning for more students in February. In order to do that, it is important to know which families would prefer to be remote and which families would prefer to be in-person if space is available.
  • We would like to remind you to login to the CPS Family Portal and select your child’s second semester enrollment. The form offers two options: “My child will remain enrolled in remote learning at home.” AND “If space is available, I will enroll my child in “in-person learning” at school.”
  • We encourage you to select the option that you feel is best for you and your family. We also know that there are a lot of uncertainties as this plan continues to be developed by the district.
  • Currently, the in-person option will allow for 2 cohorts of students to be in person Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday with dismissal at lunch and remote learning on afternoons and remote days. It is also important to note that information from the district is still evolving, including staffing, scheduling, busing, and a picture of what the in-person experience will be like.
  • Please note that if you do not submit the form, your child will be automatically enrolled in remote (at home). The portal will be open from Jan. 8-15.
  • In addition to this message, advisors will be reaching out to you this week as they do every week and will offer another reminder to log in to the CPS Family Portal.
  • Going forward, please keep an eye out for an upcoming information session for families.
  • Need a flu shot? For all school age children (up to 21), the Teen Health Center located at CRLS is OPEN! If a student needs their required flu vaccine and/or other required vaccines, please call 617-665-1548 to make an appointment.
The Teen Health Center is at 459 Broadway, Cambridge MA 02138
    Mon-Thu 8-4pm, Fri 8-3pm.
If you need assistance filling out the second semester forms or have questions, contact Family Liaison Kunjal Shah at [email protected] or text/call 857.270.3365.

We have always and will continue to always be here to support you in whatever decisions you make in regards to your own safety and well-being as well as that of your family. We are inspired by your courage and willingness to persevere despite an almost insurmountable amount of obstacles, challenges, changes, and losses this year.

Sincerely,

Mirko Chardin
